  1. Potty Training Bell by Mighty Paw, Tinkle Bell Dog door bell. Doorbells for puppy and house-training (verified owner)

This bell is perfect, and great customer service!

This bell works great!!! My Boxer puppy very quickly picked up on how to use the bell, in fact he quickly learned that ringing the bell earned him a treat. It didn't take long at all for him to associate it with going out, but I would advise anyone mounting one to put it high enough for him to use with his nose, not his body. Our puppy got very carried away with it and would body slam it for fun, so the metal holder would be bent all directions. We mounted it higher and that resolved the problem. It is so handy for him to be able to let us know when he wants to go out, even if we are not near the door. I can hear it through most of the house. At one year old, my Boxer now rings the bell and sits patiently by the door for someone to let him out, it is great. I originally bought 3 of these, 2 as gifts. My friends with dogs love their tinkle bell gifts. The bell came off of mine, and after contacting customer service, not only did Mighty Paw replace my bell, they also gave me the choice of a free gift from their store!
The gift I chose was the Mighty Paw Smart Bell 2.0, basically a dog doorbell. I cannot say enough good things about this doorbell! It is mounted outside the kitchen slider, and it took about a day for my Boxer to learn how to ring the doorbell when he wanted to come in, he pushes it with his nose and it rings a doorbell inside the house! I used to feel like I needed to stay in the kitchen if it was cold out and he was outside. He loves to play outside, but the only way he let me know to come in was to paw the door. This combination of tinkle bell and doggy doorbell are the best doggy gadgets ever!!! I love them, and it is so cute to see my dog ring the bell when he wants to go out, then come running up on the deck and ring the doorbell when he wants to come in!!! They work great together and thank you Mighty Paw for the awesome customer service!

    Sturdy and durable

My puppy is house trained but has been scratching up the door every time she has to go. A friend said he trained his dog to ring a bell at the door for potty time, so I searched Amazon and found this bell. This metal potty bell looks sturdy and durable, and it is easy to install. The bell came with flat head screws, which I replaced with stainless steel round head wood screws. I decided the wood screws are better for my wooden door and stainless steel is better quality. Also, I went with the round head screws, because they make better contact with a flat surface. Now I need to train my puppy to use it!

Update: Took 2 days, 2 to 3 hours each day, to train my 7 month old border collie to use the bell. Love the sound of the bell for potty time, instead of the jumping and scratching at the door.

Its loud enough and seems to work for what its intended for - training for me took more than a month

We have had this product for more more than 2 months now and use it more than 5-6 times daily.

My dog was first scared of the sound and would also seem apprehensive to touch it even when we helped him ring it with his paw. He even used to get scared when he accidentally bumped on it while playing. But we kept on using it for more than a month and then he did not seem too scared when we used to use his paw to ring it. Then I slowly started leaving him near the bell and used my "training phrase" we always used before ringing the bell and to make him ring it himself. He would then try to nudge it, but very carefully as he was still scared of the sound.

One day, I did not let him move away from the bell till he rang it hard. From that day, suddenly he seemed ok with it ringing it hard and nowadays he really goes at it (sometime even more than once if we are a little slow to come when it rings it once) : ). But now the issue is that he does not know that he is supposed to ring it only when he wants to go out to do "his business". So he now rings it whenever he wants to go out. He even rings it anytime someone goes out and he is allowed to follow them : ) .. But just so that he gets used to this routine, we continue to take him out everytime he rings it and gets him back home immediately when we know he just rang it to be out and not to pee or poop.

I was not sure if my dog would use it and installed it using a 3M sticker to fix it to my door frame and so cannot comment on installation. But it seems pretty straight forward to install it.

    Pros
    1) Pretty loud and can be heard anywhere in my house (50-100 ft away). We even hear it 30 ft away with the TV on too.
    2) Looks are good and like a shiny silver metal and my log pawing it has not damaged it yet
    3) Seems to work for what its intended (my advice would be to stick with your routine of ringing it everytime you take your pet out)

    Cons
    1) I have attached it to my door frame. The dog uses his paw to ring it and so tends to hit it on the top. The handle attaching to the bell seems to get bend because of it and looses its curved shape and so I have to twist it back to its shape when the bell is now almost touching the floor.
    2) The joint where the bell attaches to the handle seems flimsy and I was worried it would break soon. But in over 2 months of use, it has not broken yet,

    Works really well for us!

We are so happy we got this bell. It was easy to install and I placed it right next to our sliding glass door, eight inches from the floor. It took us less than a week to train our pup. Granted, I work from home so I’m able to spend a ton more time training my pup. My spouse was worried it would be impossible to train him so we are glad it has worked out. The first few days we rang the bell each time we went out. I said our cue, let’s go potty, lured him to his potty spot with a treat. He would then get a treat and praise after going. I wanted him to create a strong association between ringing the bell and going potty so I also had him on leash, so he would t just run around the yard playing. After two days I sat on the floor with my pup and tried to lure him with a treat to hit the bell and eventually figured out to stuff a soft treat inside the bell. Then when he accidentally hit it trying to get the treat out I gave him huge excited praise and an additional treat. I kept doing both of these step over the next few days until he started doing it on his own. After using it successfully for two months ( he’s 5 months old now.) he has gotten wiser and sometimes rings it just for attention or just to go out and play outside. So we are enforcing again with treats when he goes potty and not letting him play outside unless that happens firsts
